Mission

The DMCS family "believes in the magic of education" and will work together with teachers, faculty and community members to instill in students a lifelong love for learning by delivering a challenging, stimulating and individualized curriculum that meets each students' unique needs, and allows students to realize the global impact of collaboration and contribution. Downtown Miami Charter School is proud to have improved two letter grades and is currently a Florida "C" school.

DMCS's Mission is to:

  • Provide students with a challenging and engaging curriculum that motivates them to reach their highest level of achievement.
  • Create an atmosphere that fosters and promotes safety, high self-esteem, self-discipline, and positive moral and social values.
  • Merge school, family and community in order to educate students to become productive, empathetic, and contributing citizens of the world.

What is a Charter School?

Charter schools are part of a sweeping educational reform that places the highest priority on providing a better education. Charter schools are tuition free and are funded much like a public school, but each charter school is governed privately. Private governance places accountability squarely on the shoulders of the entity running the schools. Every dollar spent through the charter school system is focused on furthering each student’s education. Unlike traditional public schools, charter schools must demonstrate success, or they will lose their charter. Charter schools can be managed by municipalities, private companies or individuals.

Downtown Miami Charter School is a member of the Charter Schools USA family of schools. Charter Schools USA is one of the largest providers of charter school management services in the state of Florida. CSUSA manages private and municipal charters for grades Pre-K through 12.
